VISITING - Arkadi Monastery and Margeritas Village

Arkadi Monastery and Margeritas Village

At this exceptionally sunny day,the 6th of January, Noel and me decided to take a daytrip by car in direction of the East Coast, more precisely to Margeritas village ( village of ceramics) and to Arkadi Monastery .

After 1h drive we reached Margeritas (b.t.w.not my first time there, ...), a place that can offer you a variation of some small local handcraft shops ( ceramics) and a besides that .... a monastery.

Some small streets in Margeritas ...

Then we have the Arkadi Monastery, close to Rethymnon ...
In the siege (1886), it has played a defensive role with infirmary ( nurses taking care of wounded soldiers).

This tree, wounded and scorched by the fire of Turks, cypress, points to the church, bullet is visible in dead bark.

Powder magazine, a place where they have burned people during the holocaust ...

This tree produces 'Dades' , a type of palm tree ...

Some representations of the old bible ...

This related with the battle ... 1866 A.C.

We passed Georgioupouli in the late afternoon, the beautiful 'Kourouna' or crow who had made friendship with me in the summer was still there and recognised me ...
